If you go to a We Are Scientists concert you will certainly understand why little boys are dreaming of becoming rockstars. This band is the manifestation of this decade old dream: they are having fun, can make a whole courtyard dance and party on the roof if they want to. But despite all of that what makes them easily one of the best live bands out there is their attitude. They are never holding back and are always going all in, no matter how big or small the audience is. I'm actually pretty sure that - If you would be lucky enough to get stranded on an lonely island with them - they would still play their heart out, before they would share some coconuts with you.
Yesterday they took the stage at everyones most favorite artsy Hotel in Berlin - the Michelberger. Even though they had just announced the courtyard gig around noon on Facebook the Hotel got pretty packed for the show. Starting off with everyones indie favorites „After Hours“ and „Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt“ they’ve warmed up the uptight audience very quick. Once again the guys from New York showed that they can make people move and qualified themselves as the perfect pool-party wedding-crasher band by turning the whole courtyard into a dance party. They also mixed in some newer songs of their just released Album „TV en Francais“ into the set and proved that they are actually evolving as a band from the just fun indie guys to a more sophisticated songwriting standard. Especially "Something About You", Arrow“ , "Take it Easy“ and "Courage“ are songs with great lyrics that prove that the band - despite the fun they are having - has grown up with this album. When Keith Murray sings "I measure my words when I’m speaking / I tell you that everythings fine / I’ve been waiting for you to arrive“ you understand that they are in a good place right now.
The most remarkable thing about We Are Scientists is that they show you how much fun growing up can be. There is no need to be flawless and boring. It’s okey to jump on a table or roof to play guitar if you want to, and it’s okey to have as much fun as you can. Thanks for reminding us that everyones inner child needs to be allowed to get out to dance pogo sometimes and sing along to great songs. There is actually no point in becoming all uptight, grown up and reserved if you still can party on roofs having the time of your life.
